Half of this Fishermen’s trail is still open for me since I walked the first half in June. I will complete this trail when my walking buddy Willeke will stop by again. Last time it was kind of difficult to find a bus or train back to Lisbon from Aljezur. Then I decided to go back to Lagos with Willeke and there I took a bus to Lisbon. Now I will see, I may walk down from Lisbon
Part of Rota Vicentina Inland Trail
The Fishermens trail is part of the GR route Rota Vicentina. It is very well marked wit red and white signs. If you don’t like the sand and the beach you could take Rota Vicentina. But be aware there are less places to stay compared to the Fishermens trail, which has beach tourism. On the Fishermens trail you walk along the coast and there are hostels, hotels, and campings. In 12 or 13 stages you can experience the most beautiful trail in the world! I read that in various blogs and travel articles. It is a must to see, when you live in Europe, or Portugal itself. The stages are not really long, less than 20 km. That means plenty of time to take a dive in the ocean, or just rest. Still my experience is that there is not a lot of time left after walking and swimming in the sea.

Most Beautiful Trail in the World
Why it is one of the most spectacular trails is because of the rough cliffs and interesting coastline. Including the most Western point of Europe. You have to walk here to see all the beauty. Really I went to Sagres by car a decade ago and I don’t remember the nice views. It was okay, but experiencing the Fishermen’s route, you will see that it was just okay.

5 Days to Lisbon
When I go to the Algarve again with Willeke, I will finalise the Fishermen’s trail for the four days, but I like to continue from or to Lisbon. It should be an addition of four days. The difficult thing here is that there are no signs on the route. It is not a recognised trail. This means you have to navigate yourself and the chance of getting lost is bigger.
Setubal is one of the places on this route, I like to see. I heard nice things about Santiago do Cacem too. I like to visit his place. All the places with Santiago in them are a must for a caminho-walker!
I will research a bit about the routes so I will not get lost.
To be continued!
